Loch ard wrecked!

Yesterday disaster struck, as the ship, the loch ard, Carrying Captain Gibbs,37 passengers and a crew of 17, wrecked on the coast of mutton bird island. The ship was sailing through heavy fog, expecting to see Melbourne come into view at any moment, but the lighthouse could not be seen through the fog, so Captain Gibbs did not know how far from the shore they were.
When the fog cleared, the captain saw that they were dangerously close to Mutton Bird Island, and way off course, so he ordered the crew to turn the boat, so they wouldn't hit the island, but it was too late and they crashed into it. When the ship struck the reef, the masts crashed down on top of the ship , preventing lifeboats from being launched and the ship was completely submerged in only 10-15 minutes.
The only survivors of the wreck were Tom Pearce, who reached shore first, and Eva Carmichael, who Tom heard crying for help, and swum back into the ocean and saved her.
The place where the two survivors came to shore is now called Loch Ard Gorge and you can visit it and learn more about the Loch Ard and the terrible shipwreck.
