Just a few short days ago our small town was quietly working away as normal. But now the scene has changed to one of devastation and despair, as the first survivors from the Loch Ard crash arrived bringing with them stories of terror, and images of the body-strewn beach of which they described with graphic detail.
The survivors in question are Eva Carmichal being 18 and Tom Pearce being 18 also. They say that there was a dreadful fog, and that the brave captain of the Loch Ard tried to navigate through it but couldn't, and when the fog cleared, they found themselves in the middle of an angry storm just meters from sharp rocks off of the cliffs, and after just fifteen minutes they crashed against Mutton Bird Island.
The captain bravely went down with his ship, and told Eva in his dying moments to tell his wife that he died like a sailor. His devastated wife has since been informed.
The crash of the Loch Ard was a tragic accident and my heart goes out to all of the relatives of the poor souls that didn't survive the crash. This is Sally Mclandalo, signing out.
