loch ard tragically crashed on the shores entrance of bass straight. 52 lives were lost and reportedly there were only two survivors, Eva Carmichael and Tom Pearce. The captain of he loch ard reportedly said to Eva before she was swept off the ship, "if you are saved Eva, let my dear wife
The loch ard 1873know that I died like a sailor". Eva was swept off the ship by a huge wave not long after she had spoke to the captain. Eva had grabbed hold of a piece of drift wood and she was swept ashore. The cause of the wreck was said to be treacherous weather which caused the captain's vision to be limited, when the weather cleared he realized that they were 2 kilometers off shore from wild waves and jagged rocks, they tried everything to avoid crashed but it was to late. Like a respectable captain, he went down with his ship.
